On Friday April 10 2026 Prof. Fabien Zoulim, head of our IHU Lyon Hepatology Institute was awarded the 2026 “Baruch S. Blumberg Prize” for his outstanding contributions to advancing the science and medicine of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis D.

At the invitation of the Hepatitis B Foundation, the ceremony was held during a gala dinner at The Warrington (Doylestown, PA 🇺🇸).

We are really proud to share with you below an excerpt from Consul General’s of France Ms. Caroline Monvoisin speech:
“(…) His recent achievements speak for themselves. As Director of the Inserm Unit “Pathobiology and Therapy of Liver Diseases”, he leads one of France’s most dynamic research groups in this field. In 2023, he founded the Lyon Hepatology Institute, “IHU EVEREST”, which was awarded a Center of Excellence label by the French Government; a testament to the ambition and impact of his scientific vision.
These achievements reflect not only Professor Zoulim’s exceptional talent, but also the strength and ambition of French biomedical research. Inserm, France’s lead public research institution dedicated to biomedical research and human health, has long been at the forefront of the global fight against viral hepatitis; and Professor Zoulim is one of its finest ambassadors. (…)
Through this distinction, it is the excellence of French biomedical research that is being recognized here in the United States, as well as the strength of French American scientific cooperation. The French Embassy is immensely proud of your achievement and of everything your work represents, for the global standing of French science, and for the patients worldwide who benefit from it (…)”
